New Delhi: Taking cognisance of the complaints of the nuns who were issues ‘transfer orders’, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has written a letter to the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinaryi Vijayan to take prompt action to ensure prevention of sabotage of material evidence and witnesses in pending case against rape-accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, so that justice may prevail.

The NCW states in the letter, “We urge your personal intervention into the matter to ensure safety of the complainants, victim (of the case under trial) and the fellow nuns.”

The letter further stated that the complainants alleged that their ‘transfer orders’ were an attempt to split them and too ‘sabotage the case’ against Bishop Franco Mulakkal. They same were issued to pressurise and threaten them as they were prominent witnesses in the case.”

Bishop Franco Mulakkal is the first Catholic Bishop in India to be arrested on accusations of raping a nun repeatedly 13-times from the period of 2014 and 2016.
