HP govt warns teachers against social media posts

Hamirpur (HP): The Himachal Pradesh Education Department has issued warnings to teachers across the state and banned them from creating news portals on social media to air grievances against the government and the department.

Taking cognizance of complaints against many teachers and non-teachers, the Directorate of Higher Education has issued letters to the college and school principals and ordered them to warn such persons to desist from such activities otherwise they will be dealt with sternly.

There are reports that many teachers are also accused of promoting PDF of newspaper news on Facebook pages.

Director of Higher Education Dr. Amarjeet Kumar Sharma said complaints have been received that many teachers and non-teachers are maintaining their own news portals.

He said no approval has been taken from the Directorate for creating such portal. The decisions and policies of the government are being presented in a wrong way on these news portals.

The Director said this act is in violation of the conditions of government services. These were efforts being made to malign the image of the department and the government, he added.

Confusion was also being created about decisions and policies and as such the Directorate of Education, after discussing with the government, has decided to take strict action against teachers and non-teachers found involved in such anti-government activities.
