Chennai: The ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in Tamil Nadu will stage a massive protest demonstration in the city on Tuesday to condemn the BJP-led government
headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre for neglecting and destroying the rights of the State.

Leaders of all the 12 alliance parties of the DMK will take part in the protest demonstration to be held in front of the Chennai Collectorate tomorrow evening to restore the due rights of Tamil Nadu, a joint statement signed by them, including DMK General Secretary and State Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, said here on Monday.

Accusing the Modi-led government is taking all possible steps to destroy the rights of Tamil Nadu,

it said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is openly threatening that Tamil Nadu will not get its due share of funds to the education sector until it implements the 3-language formula and accepts the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).

Accusing the Centre of deceiving Tamil Nadu in the budget, they said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has shown utter bias in not announcing any allocation of funds and new projects.

“They are creating an environment wherein we must stand up and vehemently oppose the Modi government, which is continuously deceiving Tamil Nadu in the budget; committing violations by keeping a Governor whose term has expired; taking steps to destroy the state’s educational infrastructure through the UGC; continuing Dravidian-Tamil hatred; and taking steps to impose Hindi in the State in the name of the three-language policy”, they said.

The fact that Tamils are unique and have improved in all aspects like education, employment, social justice and standard of living has been irritating the Modi government at the Centre, they said.

“Hence the BJP-led Government at the Centre is spewing venom and hatred towards the people of Tamil Nadu who have politically ignored the BJP. It is trying to destroy Tamil Nadu, which stands united against the divisive forces”, they added.

Asserting that Tamil Nadu will unite whenever attempts were made to defeat it, the joint statement said no matter in what form the enemy comes in, TN will stand firm.

To condemn the Modi-led Government at the Centre for creating such a situation in the State, a massive protest demonstration will be held tomorrow as part of the first phase of the agitation in which leaders of all the parties of the DMK-led Front would participate”, it said.

“Let us raise our voices loudly as to why the Union Government, which receives funds from Tamil Nadu, is deceiving the State. Let us make it clear that we will rise up if the rights of Tamil Nadu are denied”, they said.

“Let’s unite! Let’s raise our voices!! Let’s reclaim our rights!!”, they said.

Apart from Mr Duraimurugan, the joint statement was signed by Dravidar Kazhagam President K Veeramani, TNCC President and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Selvaperunthagai, MDMK General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko, CPI(M) State Secretary P Shanmugam, CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan, IUML President K M Khader Moideen, VCK President and Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan, Actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam General Secretary Arunachalam, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi President M H Jawahirullah, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi General Secretary E R Eswaran and Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi President T Velmurugan.
