Chennai: The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the sensational Kallakurichi spurious liquor tragedy that claimed 66 lives in June this year.
On petitions filed by the advocates of the Opposition parties, including the AIADMK,
BJP and the PMK, a Division Bench comprising D Krishnakumar and P B Balaji ordered
transferring the case to the CBI.
It also directed the State police to hand over all the case documents to the CBI.
As the case shocked the state, a total of 21 people were arrested after the tragedy that
had claimed 66 lives after the probe revealed that smuggling of methanol from adjacent
Puducherry and other areas, had caused the death.
The Court also said there was no bar in the CB-CID continuing its probe into the case.
