Washington: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz officially agreed to be nominated as a candidate for vice president of the United States from the Democratic Party in the upcoming November election, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

Walz said at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago that it is an honor for him to accept the nomination for vice president.

The US presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5. In July, incumbent US President Joe Biden said he was withdrawing from the 2024 election in the best interest of the Democratic Party and the nation.

He endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, which she accepted. On Tuesday, delegates at the Democratic National Convention officially made Harris their nominee following a ceremonial vote.
