Washington: Former TV anchor Kari Lake has been named the future head of the US government’s Voice of America media outlet, President-elect Donald Trump announced on Thursday.
“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America,” Trump said on his microblogging handle Truth Social.
Lake will work closely with the future head of the US Agency for Global Media, Trump added.
“She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the world fairly and accurately, unlike the lies spread by the fake news media,” Trump said.
Lake, 55, previously worked as a news anchor in Arizona at KSAZ-TV. In 2021, Kari Lake left television to run for Arizona governor, winning the Republican Party nomination and Trump’s endorsement. However, she ultimately lost. In 2023, she announced her candidacy for the US Senate, securing the party’s nomination again, but ultimately facing defeat.
