Hyderabad: After Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) changed its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party’s first plenary began at Telangana Bhavan here on Thursday.
Every year on April 27, the TRS had been holding its annual plenary to mark the party’s formation day with the sole objective of achieving separate statehood to Telangana.
After successfully achieving Telangana statehood in 2014 and coming to power twice in the 2014 and 2018 Assembly elections, KCR decided to change the party’s name to BRS in October last year in order to foray into National politics and emerge as an alternative to the BJP-led NDA governmnt at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Chief Minister and BRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao kicked off the day-long plenary by hoisting the party flag and paying floral tributes to Telangana Thalli and at martyrs memorial.
The Plenary is being held ahead of the assembly election which is slated to be held towards the end of this year.
Nearly 300 representatives including Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, party district presidents, corporation chairpersons and senior leaders have attended the plenary.
The plenary which will conclude at 5 pm, will adopt resolutions on the failures of the Central government and achievements of Telangana government in the last nine years in the sectors of agriculture, irrigation and welfare.
The party would also pass a resolution on BRS playing a bigger role in the National politics.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao said the party will adopt resolutions on the ‘political situation in the country and key issues’.
We will also highlight failures of the Centre in giving jobs and not allocating a single education institution to the state, he said.
Generally, the party holds plenary with about 3,000 leaders from various districts outside Telangana Bhavan but this time, the party organised mini plenaries on Tuesday in all the 119 assembly segments and the constituencies also passed resolutions on various sectors such as agriculture, irrigation and welfare.
BRs is also planning to hold May Day celebrations on May 1 in a big way.” The Centre is systematically closing down and weakening the public sector undertakings such as LIC, BSNL, Visakha Steel Plant (VSP) . The Party will unite the workers against the politics of the central government, KTR added.
