Jalandhar: Aam Aadmi Party’s Sushil Kumar Rinku won by a margin of 58691 votes from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency.
Rinku polled 302279 votes and defeated his nearest rival Congress’ Karamjeet Kaur Chaudhary, who polled 243588 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi with 158445 votes and the Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Inder Iqubal Singh Atwal with 134800 votes stood 3rd and 4th respectively.
Rinku, a former Congress MLA from Jalandhar West constituency joined AAP last month only. Similarly, Atwal had left SAD to join BJP just ahead of byelections.
Bypolls were necessiated by the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary during Bharat Jodo Yatra in January. Polling was held on May 10. Around 54 percent voters had cast their vote.
