Tunis: The number of Palestinians killed in the war in the Gaza Strip since October 7 has topped 14,500, the enclave’s administration said on Wednesday.

“The death toll has reached 14,532, this includes 6,000 children,” Gaza’s information center said in a statement.

The number of those wounded in more than seven weeks of hostilities has exceeded 35,000.

Israel and Hamas agreed a four-day humanitarian pause in fighting on Wednesday. It is expected to take effect on Thursday morning. As part of the temporary truce, Israel will release 150 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for 50 hostages taken by the Palestinian group.

On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing the hostages.
